Ruthy Marks' Obituary
Ruthy Marks, loving wife, mother and grandmother, died on Friday afternoon, May 20, 2022, after a brief and courageous battle with brain cancer.
Ruthy is survived by her husband of 38 years, Kimberly Marks; her children, Eitan Marks (Keren) of Tel Aviv, Israel, Ariel Marks (Judith) of Boston, MA, and Yael Marks Karavani (Adi), of Ramat Gan, Israel. She is also survived by her siblings, Abraham Lerner (Yuko) and Silvia Lerner. She was the proud grandmother of four adoring grandchildren, Eliav, Yadin, Amitai and Nitai. She is predeceased by her parents, Boris and Josephine Lerner.
Ruthy was born on July 18, 1960, in Medellin, Colombia. Her family moved to Miami, Florida in 1978, escaping the unrest in her country of origin. Soon after she enrolled at the University of Miami where she met her husband and love of her life, Kim. She later transferred and graduated from Florida International University with a B.A. in interior design.
Ruthy was loved by everyone who knew her because she exuded warmth and love. She welcomed all into her home; her door was always open. Her Shabbat table was always impeccably set, the food delicious with room for always one more. Everything Ruthy touched was beautiful. She drew immense joy from curating her own flower arrangements, tending to her orchids, or arranging her home just so. She also appreciated beauty in all the things around her; she could not drive through a neighborhood without slowing down to relish in examples of beautiful architecture. She loved Israel passionately. She spent her summers visiting friends and family in Tel Aviv; she loved spending time in a city where she could walk everywhere and always felt so alive going from “beit cafe to beit cafe”. Her greatest joy was her children and grandchildren. Her greatest love was her husband, the love of her life. She was a true woman of valour.
