Salo "Sol" Priester's Obituary
Salo (Sol) Priester was lucky in many ways. He had a good life — doing what he wanted, when he wanted to do it. He had his own business fixing copy machines but never worked too hard. He was a ladies man, a wheeler-dealer, and a player. For several years he enjoyed being a director of his large condo association. He loved sweets, gambling on the horses, and playing poker, all of which he got to do almost every day. A stroke in 2004 left him in a wheelchair, paralyzed on one side. But he was extrememly fortunate to find a wonderful caregiver, John Sroka, to live with him and be the son he never had. John arranged to get him to the casino most days, just the way Salo wanted. Playing the horses and poker kept him entertained and happy. A short bout with pancreatic cancer ended Salo’s days too soon. Now he's at peace, hopefully winning BIG time at poker, playing with those special dudes in the sky. He is survived by his sister, Witta Priester.
A gathering to celebrate Salo's life will be held on Friday, June 7, from 6 to 9 PM, at 230 174th Street, Apt. 2104.
