Samuel G. Hebel's Obituary
Samuel G. Hebel (January 14, 1917) passed away peacefully on May 20, 2013 at the age of 96. Beloved husband of Elayne Shechter Hebel and the late Edythe Hebel (nee Weiner), and loving father of Mark Hebel (Mona), Debra Glinski (Edward),and Ellen Kimmel. Known as “Gumpy” to his family, he was the cherished grandfather of Martin, Tsvi, Jason, Aliza, Kristin, Brett, Seth and Evan and 23 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother William.
Born in Roselle, New Jersey, Sam lived in Linden, NJ before moving to Pembroke Pines, Florida in 1985. After graduating from Abraham Clark High School in 1934, he joined his brother William to form Hebel & Hebel Real Estate / Insurance, and was one of the founders of the Suburban Jewish Center in Linden, NJ. Music was an important part of Sam’s life; he played the violin and would sing for anyone who would listen. In his later years, he enjoyed playing golf and tennis in the retirement complex of Hollybrook in South Florida.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of the donor’s choice. Services and burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday Graveside at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in Iselin, NJ.
