Samuel "Sammy" Stock's Obituary
Samuel Stock (aka Sammy / Sam / jazzed18) passed away July 18, 2020, age 67, in Miami Beach, Florida. He was the son to the late Shara and David Stock. Sam was born in Dalton, Georgia on July 2, 1953 and later moved to Memphis, TN, where he grew up around lots and lots of Loskove and Thomas aunts, uncles and cousins as well as his grandparents, Bertha and Isaac. Sam’s grandparents were a very big influence in his life. They were his guiding light, and helped instill his strong belief in Judaism and his Jewish faith. He attended Dalton State College and The University of Memphis with an emphasis in theatre. He followed in Isaac’s footsteps with a career in the insurance industry that spanned over 30 years. Sam was a devoted family member and friend. He had a great sense of humor and would make you part of his laughter. He was always concerned about others even when he was going through his own life challenges. Sam had a big heart, was an attentive care giver, and genuinely cared for others. Sam was known for his upbeat attitude, his many varied interests and a broad range of knowledge. He enjoyed healthy eating, daily exercise with or without his trainer, holistic rather than Western medicine, spirituality and meditation, politics, and his family. His true passion lied in the entertainment industry, though. Sam’s gift was his voice. Whether it was singing in the choir at Baron Hirsch Synagogue, acting in front of the camera, or behind the scenes actively involved in video and post production. This was when he was at his happiest. Having been an actor in California in his early years, Sam later moved to Florida to care for his mother and get back to doing what he loved most… being involved in the entertainment industry and fine tuning his acting craft. Sam is survived by his brother, Morris Stock; nephews, Isaac and Benjamin Stock, and niece, Rachel Parsons; a loving aunt, Myrna Platkin, and a very long list of aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends far and wide. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Arrangements by Levitt-Weinstein Blasberg-Rubin-Zilbert Memorial Chapel (305) 932-2700
