Sarah J. Cohen's Obituary
Sarah Jane Cohen, was a Brooklyn/Miami girl born to Doctor Father and Nurse Mother. She grew up loving animals, people and art. She went to Adelphi to get her Bachelors of Art degree. When she was 26, she married Alan Cohen then preceded to have 2 children Iris and Matthew. She raised her children in New York. She was a stay-at-home Mom who loved to cook and bake, until Iris went to college. Then she worked at Newmark & Lewis with Karen, Matthew’s wife.
When Al and Sarah Jane moved to Florida they sold small leather goods at Flea Markets around South Florida. Once Alan got Dementia, Sarah Jane became the caregiver. She was a widow for 8 years. Her pleasures in life was talking and texting her kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had many friends from her days in New York and everyone in her condo building. She was the “Cool Mom” in the neighborhood and all the neighborhood kids would hangout at her house. She was sweet and made friends easily. She had a gift where she would remember everyone's names in New York. She had a big stuffed dog that stayed under the living room coffee table that was the guard dog.
She was adventurous in her early years where she would go on sailing trips and wilderness hikes when Alan would go to Las Vegas for his adventures. She always had kind words and compliments for everybody and saw the best in people. There was no one that she didn’t like. The last few years she got diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer and still kept a positive outlook until it finally got the best of her!
She will be missed by all that knew her. Sarah particularly got great joy from going out to dinner with Jill Jacobs, Jerry & Amy Kral, grandson Steve and great-granddaughter Isabelle, granddaughter Amanda and husband John, and great-grandchildren Riley and Jackson, Bart McLoughlin, Fran Metayer and Tina Speiss. She appreciated everyone and all their kindness toward her. Iris and Matt want to thank Rabbi Frank for being there for the Cohen family!
