Serafima Nudelman's Obituary
Serafima Nudelman passed away on March 24, 2024, in Miami, Florida at the age of 78.
Born in Ukraine in the aftermath of World War 2, she grew up experiencing the repression of the Soviet Union on anyone who dared to think differently. Despite the challenges of being a Jew in the Soviet Union, she pursued education as the pathway to a better life. Becoming one of the first computer programmers in the country she valued education above all.
In her early forties she came to the United States, settling in New York City with no knowledge of English, to enable her family to have religious freedom and a better life, quickly establishing herself as a respected computer scientist. In retirement she served as the president of her local Toastmasters chapter and volunteered at an organization connecting New Yorkers with visitors to improve their experience.
After moving to Miami, she enjoyed traveling with Dinah and her late son-in-law Edward Winant - visiting them in Central Asia, Africa and Europe. Above all she was thrilled to be a grandmother to Freyja. She wrote memoirs about her family and life in Ukraine and maintained a wide circle of friendships. She will be deeply missed by family and friends around the globe. She will be buried at the historic Harper’s Ferry cemetery next to her favorite son-in-law. She is survived by her husband, Mark Zeltser, daughter Dinah and her granddaughter Freyja Winant, of Bangkok, Thailand.
The family will hold a Chapel Service on Monday, April 1, 2024 at 11:00 am at Levitt-Weinstein Memorial Chapel. 18840 West Dixie Highway, North Miami Beach, Florida 33180. A Funeral Service will be held in West Virginia on Friday, April 5, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Eackles-Spencer and Norton Funeral Home
