Dr. Sheldon Zane's Obituary
ZANE, SHELDON, 82, of Hollywood, Florida passed away on Friday, August 26th after succumbing to an acute respiratory illness while on vacation in Iceland. He was born in Philadelphia, PA, the son of Albert and Lillian Zane and brother of Barbara Cooke. Shelly was a graduate of Miami Beach High, the University of Florida, and the University of Miami
School of Medicine. He was the loving and devoted husband of Elaine (pre-deceased) for 57 beautiful years. Father of Steven (Claudia) Zane, Debra Zane (Jeff Jarkow), Bonnie Zane, and Mindy (Stephen) Rosenthal, he was a spirited, bright, determined, amusing, sweetheart of a dad. Shelly was the treasured, wise Zayde to Sarah (Tom) Kincaid, Katherine Zane, Ben Jarkow, Amy Jarkow, Lily Zane, Benjamin Rosenthal and Emma Rosenthal. He practiced rheumatology with his friends Drs. Wil Blechman, Dave Lipkin and Ben Lechner for 24 years. Happy to help anyone at anytime with anything, Shelly was a loyal pal. From his Beach High buddies to the fellow physicians in the Florida Medical Divers Association to the two choirs in which he sang, Shelly was there for you. He taught Photoshop®️ at Century Village Pembroke Pines to a group of interested residents. For years after retiring from private practice, Dr. Zane was on staff with Catholic Hospice where he tirelessly tended to patients all over South Florida. Not only was Shelly a seasoned, gifted doctor, he was a world traveler, a talented photographer, and a colorful storyteller. He loved singing and dancing, riding his motorcycle (until we made him sell it), boating, nature -- he loved every minute of it all.
