Simon Rosen's Obituary
Holocaust survivor Simon (Sinai) Rosen, 94, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2014 following a long illness. He leaves behind daughter Svetlana Rozen & grandson Alexander Simon, of Chicago, Illinois; brother and sister-in-law Allen & Sandra Rosen, of Yonkers, New York; numerous nieces, nephews and many close friends. Originally from Lodz, Poland Simon also lived in the former U.S.S.R. where he met and married his late wife Manya (Miriam) Rosen and as an army soldier proudly fought against the Axis powers. As a young man in Lodz, he studied textiles and his many occupations included - weaver, tailor, salesman and photographer.
His passion for the environment and love for all living creatures culminated in a vegetarian and later a vegan diet. Simon was a great supporter of Israel and enjoyed music, singing, reading, dancing and playing the harmonica. Witty, creative, clever and kind, he often brought smiles to everyone he met. He added much warmth, inspiration and humor to everyone at the Chabad of South Broward, where he was a congregant and community member for many years. Simon’s life story of survival, despite numerous personal adversities could easily fill several volumes of books. He will be sorely missed and forever remembered by all whose lives he touched.
