Sonya "Sonny" Rabin Greenfield's Obituary
Sonya (Sonny) Rabin Greenfield, age 94, passed away peacefully at home on August 8, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born in Omaha, Nebraska on August 17, 1928, the daughter of Ben and Selma Danbaum. Sonny was preceded in death by her beloved husband and the father of her children, Samuel J. Rabin, and her dear second husband, Dr. Maurice Greenfield. She is survived by her children, Selma Newman (Jeffrey) and Samuel J. Rabin, Jr. (Linda); grandchildren, Robert Newman (Lisa), Jennifer Newman Bernstein (Peter), Sandy Rabin, and Lissy Rabin Zilber (Michael); and great grandchildren, Stella and Olivia Newman and Benjamin and Eli Bernstein. Sonny attended the University of Miami, where she met Sam. The two fell in love with each other and the city and remained and built their lives in Miami. Throughout her life, Sonny was heavily involved in numerous charities and civic organizations, including Temple Israel, the University of Miami Women’s Guild, Funding for the Arts, the Jewish Museum (advisory board), and the Greater Miami Jewish Federation. She will be missed by her family and friends. Her family is grateful for her wonderful caregivers, Linda Duarte, Margaret Pierre Louis, Yvonne Smith and Martha Villa who were loving and compassionate. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution in Sonny’s memory to the charity of your choice. A funeral service will be held at Temple Beth Sholom, 4144 Chase Ave, Miami Beach, Florida 33140 on Thursday morning, August 10 at 9:30 a.m. Arrangements by Levitt-Weinstein Blasberg-Rubin-Zilbert Memorial Chapel (305) 932-2700
