Stanley met the love of his life, Schatzi, when they were both 14 years old. They married in 1951 and moved to Miami Beach in 1954. In 1955 Stanley opened the first of a successful chain of liquor stores, Crown Wine and Spirits. His innovative marketing concepts in retail merchandizing were ahead of their time. His business legacy is carried on today by his sons and grandson. We called him “Superman” because his commitment to his ideals was impenetrable.Stanley’s indomitable will, strength of character and drive were matched only by his loving heart and generous spirit. His life can be measured not only by his professional success, but by the love and closeness his family shares with one another. Stanley was an avid photographer, enjoyed boating and fishing with the family on his boat, the “Schatzi’O”, but above all golf was his game. He spent a lifetime perfecting his swing. On Friday we were blessed to have him at home for the family’s Passover Seder, and on Sunday, surrounded by his family, Stanley was lucky enough to watch “Bubba” don his Green Jacket at the Masters. In 1973 Schatzi and Stanley founded the University of Miami Project: New Born, which established the “Schatzi Kassal Neonatal Intensive Care Unit” at Jackson Memorial Medical Center. Stanley’s steadfast commitment to the Project has saved the lives of countless premature babies throughout the world. His family will be forever appreciative of the devotion of all his physicians, particularly Dr. Richard A. Elias. Stanley’s spirit will live on in the hearts of his children, grandchildren, and those whose lives he touched. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the University of Miami Project: New Born.
