Stanley Joseph Kline's Obituary
Stanley Joseph Kline, a resident of Lauderdale-by-the Sea, passed away on October 11, 2015 at the age of 100. Stanley was pre-deceased by his wife, Charlotte, and his son, Marshall. He is survived by his daughter, Audrey Silbert, and his son-in-law, Richard Silbert. Stanley was born in 1915 in the city of Portsmouth, Virginia. He was a Doctor of Optometry, having graduated from Northern Illinois College of Optometry. He practiced in Roanoke and Newport News, Virginia until he moved to Miami in the early 1940’s, the home town of his wife. He joined The Miami Roofing and Sheet Metal Company which soon became a division of the Zack Company out of Chicago. Stanley ultimately became the owner and President of the Zack Company of Miami in the 1960’s. The Zack Company was a general contractor and one of the few union companies in South Florida at the time. Stanley participated in creating the skyline of South Florida. His company helped forge the creation of many of our landmarks, either by roofing, air conditioning and custom sheet metal fabrication. Some of these landmarks were/are: hotels, such as the iconic Fontainebleau and Eden Roc and restaurants such as The Embers, Wolfies, Juniors, Joe’s Stone Crabs, Burger Kings, Lum’s and Howard Johnsons. Stanley also participated in building several of our justice buildings, various buildings in downtown Miami and along Brickell Avenue, Cape Canaveral, Disney World, the Panama Canal, the ports of both Miami and Fort Lauderdale, Florida’s public schools, the University of Miami and community colleges, synagogues and churches. He also was the builder and developer of warehouses, homes, shopping centers and condominiums. After 40 years in the contracting and construction business, Stanley retired at age 70.
Services will be held at Beth David Cemetery, 3201 N. 72nd Avenue, Hollywood, FL, 33024 on Sunday, October 18th at 2:00 p.m. Stanley was a generous and charitable person. In lieu of flowers the family requests that a donation be made to a charity of your choice.
