I learned today that we lost a member of the Island family, Steve Kern. I knew Steve from a very young age. He taught me to swim in his parents pool, how to throw a football. All the kids from the area would have football games in his front yard. As I got older (driving age) his mother had me take him to Dolphins and Hurricanes games at the Orange Bowl then Joe Robbie Stadium. I can still hear his mothers weekly phone call reminder " Ya takin Stevie to the game? I was honored when Steve asked me to go to the opening day of the Florida Marlins with him. Steve always had the best seats, 50 yard line at the OB and Joe Robbie. Now the seats are empty because Steve has moved to the Sky Box where he is watching every game with a hot dog, soda and a smile. Steve: I speak for all the kids on the islands that grew up with you, Thank you for being a mentor, Thank you for being a friend, and most of all Thank you for being you.
