Stuart Warren Fearer's Obituary
Stuart Fearer, 81, only child of Jack Fearer and Lena (Feferling) Fearer, died Nov. 18, 2014, after intermittent bouts with cancer, in Tamarac, FL. A fractured hip 4 days previous sped up his demise from end stage cancer. Shortly before his passing, he watched his wife of 59 years leave this earth.
Stuart was born in Lawrence, MA, growing up with an extended family around him. He developed an early passion for reading (primarily fiction) which he did voraciously until his death, often reading a book a day. Often a quiet, shy person, he later joined the Air Force for 4 years during the waning years of the Korean War, serving as an X-ray technician in Florida, after which he lived most of his life (although a significant part he spent in MA and NJ). He met his wife, Joyce Ragovin, at the Air Force base they were both serving at (she was a civilian dental hygentist), and married after a short courtship. He worked as an accountant, salesman, realtor, and finally as an residential appraiser up until 2 months before his death. Cancer treatments forced his retirement, a very brief period during which he fully indulged himself in books and movies, as symptoms and treatment allowed him to.
His great love for books was passed down to his daughter, who currently the owns a used bookstore, (along with being a health coach), and who also was a main caregiver to both Stuart and Joyce in their last months.
Stuart is survived by his three children, Mark Fearer of Boulder,CO (transitioning to Tamarac, FL) Steven Fearer of Longmont, CO and Susan Smelser of Powder Springs, GA. He also left behind three grandchildren, Josh, Sarah and Alex. A Chapel service will be held Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at 10:30 AM at Levitt-Weinstein Memorial Chapel, 8135 McNab Road, Tamarac, FL 33321. 954-721-2500.Burial will follow the service at South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, FL.
