Susan A. Moening's Obituary
Susan Moening, age 60, ended her long battle with cancer on Monday July 11th. She was born in Sharon, MA to Morton Green and Shirley (Betterman) Green, and was the oldest of three children. She married Mark Moening in 1974 and together they had four children. While married, Mark and Susan grew their own food beginning her lifetime love of gardening. Susan graduated with her Master's degree in Education and dedicated her life to teaching the underprivileged. Beloved by her students, she was a passionate teacher who won Miami-Dade County Teacher of the Year twice. A lover of politics and government, Susan fought for any cause that she believed in. Diagnosed with cancer in 1995, Susan's strong fighting spirit beat all the odds and she continued to be a loving presence for both her family and students for over 20 years. She is survived by her mother Shirley Green, sister Pam Poleszak, brother Andrew Green and children Melody, Alex, Amanda, Jeremy and his wife Maggie. Also, Susan was a loving and dedicated grandmother who is survived by seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Levitt Weinstein Funeral Home, 3201 N. 72 Ave Hollywood, FL 33024 on Tuesday July 12 at 2 pm. Shiva will be held from 5 to 8 pm at Amanda Moening's home 3064 Perriwinkle Circle Davie, FL 33328. "To thine own self be true."
