Sylvia Berry Rose's Obituary
Sylvia Berry Rose, of Miami, Florida, passed away on March 31, 2026, at the age of 102, just 17 days shy of her 103rd birthday.
She is survived by her loving children, Linda Sokolowicz (John), Cathy Grossberg Ozer (Robert Ozer), Deborah Nolan (James), and Traci Lerner (Mark). She was the cherished grandmother of Alison Werner, Pamela Buchbinder, Lisa Sokolowicz, Amy Werner, Marc Sokolowicz (Sheri), Brian Sokolowicz, Eric Gettleman (Beth Raboin-Gettleman), Jason Grossberg (Rin), Matthew Grossberg, Alyssa Carlson (Stephen), Jeffrey Nolan (Dana), Jacob Nolan, Stephanie Levee (Jason), Coby Lerner (Nadine), Tyler Lerner, and Sara Lerner. She was the adored great-grandmother of Mollie Umansky (Max), Sophie Weinstein, Calder Weiss, Jackson Flaum, Eli Flaum, Gracie Savitt, Jordan Sokolowicz, Justin Sokolowicz, Noah Gettleman, Eli Gettleman, Sara Gettleman, Sylvie Carlson, Sam Carlson, Parker Nolan, Nash Nolan, Spencer Levee, Cooper Levee, Madeleine Levee, Pella Lerner, and Isidor Lerner.
She was predeceased by her beloved parents, Max and Ida Berry; her dear siblings, Melvin Berry, Bernice “Fifi” Holland, and Natalie Jacobs; her treasured daughter, Sally Shanbrun; her husbands, William Shanbrun, Daniel Udell, and Jerome B. Rose; and her beloved companion, Jack Courshon. Sylvia’s life was made richer with the care and companionship of Mel Jackson and Shem Knowles over the past three years.
Born in Providence, Rhode Island, Sylvia was a proud graduate of Brown University, Class of 1944. She lived a long and meaningful life centered around family, resilience, and deep personal connections. Sylvia will be remembered for her strength, warmth, and the enduring love for her five daughters and extended family.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Mount Nebo Kendall Memorial Gardens, 5900 S.W. 77th Avenue, Miami, Florida 33143.
The family will receive friends immediately following the funeral at the home of Linda and John Sokolowicz.
