Vera Deutsch's Obituary
The family of Vera Deutsch has the sad duty to announce her passing in the early
morning hours of Oct. 21, 2022, at Mt. Sinai Hospital, Miami Beach, FL.
Born Veronica Hollo, March 11, 1936, in Balassagyarmat, Hungary, Vera (along with her
brother, mother, and step-father) survived the Holocaust only to flee Soviet occupation
and arrive as refugees, first in Guatemala, and then Los Angeles, California by 1956.
She married Max Moshe Deutsch in 1959. She would make her home with him from then
onward for about half a century in Caracas, Venezuela, raising two children, helping her
husband run successful business enterprises and contributing to the philanthropic and
social life of her new home. Max and Vera both left Venezuela and settled in Aventura,
FL in 2013, where they began their retirement years.
Vera was a battler: Born with a severe heart defect that was supposed to kill her before
her teens, she fought off her ailments with a fierceness that was reflected in her life and
her commitments to her friends, family and causes. She was devoted to the right of Jews
to a Homeland and made contributions throughout her life towards causes in support of
Judaism and the State of Israel. She was also a feminist committed to women's rights
everywhere.
She is survived by son Rafael, daughter-in-law Amirah, granddaughters Natalia and Dara,
and son David, and by many members of her extended family, all of whom are deeply
saddened and impoverished by their loss.
