Walter E. Hansen's Obituary
Walter Eugene Hansen was born on January 31, 1935 in Iowa City, Iowa to the late Mary and Sophus Hansen. After high school, he was a medic in the army until attending the University of Iowa, earning a degree in Radio & Television Communications. While in college he was a radio DJ for WSUI, a classical music station. After spending spring break in Florida he decided that Miami Beach was where he wanted to live. Upon graduation from college, he said good-bye to the snowy north, jumped in his corvette and drove to Miami Beach where he landed his dream job at WSVN. He has worked with the station since 1963 making it 50 years of dedicated service. Walt passed away last Friday morning while getting ready to go to the work that he enjoyed and the friends that he loved.
He loved his family, his work, his friends and neighbors. He was always a hard worker, wonderful friend and loving dad. He is survived by his daughters, Heidi, Holly & Hayley, his sister, Mary and two grandchildren. He will be missed dearly by everyone who has ever met him.
Please join our family in remembering our dad. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service at 12:00 noon at BLASBERG-RUBIN-ZILBERT Memorial Chapel, 720-71st Street, Miami Beach, Florida (305) 538-6371
