Warren "Pancho" Bryer's Obituary
Warren ‘Pancho’ Bryer of Sunny Isles Beach, FL passed away December 26, 2017. After defying the odds for many months, his heart beat for the final time as he sat working at his desk at home. He was born January 27, 1935 in South Philly to Mollie and Barney Bryer. He was a proud member of the 196 class of Central High School, graduating at age 16, a graduate of Temple University, and a CPA. He moved to Miami in 1988 to work for the late Anthony R. Abraham and his family to whom he dedicated the last 29 plus years of his life up to his very final moment. ‘Pancho’ was the “winningest” coach of the Philadelphia Jewish Basketball League, being twice honored by the JBL Alumni Assoc. Over a span of 30 years, he coached and played for the Philadelphia Athletic Club, the Brith Sholom League and many other teams in the Independent Leagues of Philadelphia. He was loved and respected by his players, not only as their coach, but as their mentor. Warren was also an avid tennis player, a lover of jazz and a horseracing enthusiast. He was predeceased by his children Merrill Bryer and Abbe Bryer Connell. He leaves behind to mourn his passing his beloved wife of 31 years and best friend for 43 years Nancy (Cohen) Bryer, his brother Jerry Bryer, sister-in-law Barbara Robinson (Ed), brother-in-law John Rohe, nephew Jon Leiff, his cousins, 2 step-grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, his Anthony Abraham work family and many friends. Memorial service is Tuesday, January 9, 2018, 11:30 am at Levitt-Weinstein Memorial Chapel, 18840 W. Dixie Hwy, North Miami Bch, FL 33180 (305) 932-2700 with a reception following.Contributions in his memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the charity of choice.
