Wayne Vandeveer Harryman's Obituary
Wayne Vandeveer Harryman, 82, passed away April 5, 2024, in Hollywood, Florida. Wayne was born July 23, 1941, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Marian Vandeveer Harryman and Wayne Mavity Harryman. He graduated from Howe High School and Indiana University. Over the years, he engaged in several careers, including mortgage banking and hotel management, but his greatest love was teaching. He taught high school English in Indiana and English as a Second Language in Florida, always encouraging his students to take care of their surrounding environment. After moving to Florida, he enjoyed daily walks to the beach and attending bluegrass concerts with friends. Wayne was an excellent swimmer and water skier and participated in water sports - in Bay View, Michigan, which was a family destination every summer, and in Florida. Wayne had a deep love for his family and for his pet dogs, which he raised with extraordinary care. Wayne is survived by his sisters, Cynthia H. Wilkens and Elizabeth Harryman Lasley; nieces Christe Cykert, PhD., and husband, Jack; Hope Corcoran and husband, Tim; Faith Brummett and husband, Michael; Grace Hopkins, daughter of deceased niece, Kim; nephew Anthony Hopkins II, and twenty-one grandnieces and grandnephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Crown Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery in Indianapolis. Arrangements by Levitt-Weinstein Blasberg-Rubin-Zilbert Memorial Chapel (305) 932-2700.
