William L. Lurie's Obituary
LURIE- William L., born February 8, 1931, of Aventura Florida passed away February 17, 2017. Cherished husband and best friend of Rita for 64 years, loving father of Ellen, Lynn (Andrew Koven) and Jay (Elizabeth), adoring grandfather of Erica Cortes, Barnett and Franny Koven, Eve, Dana and Aaron Lurie. Bill received his B.S., M.B.A. and J.D. from Northwestern University and was a member of the Michigan Bar, Illinois Bar and New York Bar. His distinguished career spanned five decades as Vice President of General Electric Company, Executive Vice President and General Counsel of International Paper Company and President of the Business Roundtable. Bill’s brilliant legal mind, business acumen and incisive negotiating skills were instrumental in shaping U.S. post World War II business relations with Europe, Eastern Europe, the Soviet Union and Japan. He was a lecturer/professor at the University of Virginia, Columbia University and Cornell University and served on numerous Boards of Directors. He was an avid sailor and golfer and an expert marksman. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Bill’s memory to a charity of your choice.
