Yva Cesaire Poitevien's Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Yva C. Poitevien, on August 29, 2024, at the age of 88. Yva was born on August 10, 1936, in Port-de-Paix, Haiti, to the late Mercedes Pierre Louis and Milford Cesaire.
She completed her education at a Catholic school run by the Sisters, where she learned various skills, including sewing. On July 16, 1959, she married Oberle Montfred Poitevien, and together they were blessed with seven children. Five of their children are still living, while two have sadly predeceased her.
In 1974, Yva was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and from then on dedicated herself to sharing the good news of God's Kingdom. She helped many friends and family members, including her two sisters, Jeanne and Jeanine, come to share in her faith.
In 1975, Yva fled to the Bahamas to reunite with her husband, who had left Haiti due to political unrest. In December 1977, she immigrated to the United States, where she settled and built a new life. In 1980, she attended Lindsey Hopkins Technical College and became a licensed daycare provider, founding and managing her own successful daycare business. Later, in the late 1980s, she pursued further education in nursing and became a certified Patient Care Assistant. Yva worked in various healthcare facilities until her retirement at the age of 70.
Yva was a devoted and loving mother, always there when her family needed her most, offering guidance, wisdom, and unconditional love. She was a cherished member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses and a dear friend to many.
Tragically, on August 29, 2024, due to the negligence of a nursing facility, Yva passed away, leaving her family with profound grief and heartache.
A visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday, October 11, 2024 at Levitt-Weinstein Blasberg-Rubin-Zilbert Memorial Chapel, 18840 West Dixie Highway, North Miami Beach, FL 33180.
A funeral service will be held to honor and celebrate Yva’s remarkable life and legacy on October 12, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, 9100 NE 2nd Avenue, Miami Shores, FL 33138.
