Dr. Annette Weissman

Dr. Annette Weissman, of Aventura, Florida passed away on March 22, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family and friends. Annette was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She was witty, strong, intelligent, and beautiful. A lifelong educator, she was passionate about education and worked tirelessly to build strong schools and communities. Annette was born on December 24, 1949, in New York, New York and moved to Miami Beach, Florida in 1952. Annette graduated from Ida Fisher Middle School and Miami Beach Senior High School. After earning a bachelor’s degree from Florida Atlantic University, she enrolled at Nova University, where she earned a master’s, education specialist, and doctorate degree in education. Annette started teaching special education at Fienberg-Fisher Elementary, where her strong leadership qualities were recognized. Annette always believed that great schools are the heart of great communities and Annette earned the deepest respect of the staff, parents, and community, who all thrived because of her commitment to the well-being of all the students. Giving back to the public schools that she, her children and grandchildren attended would become a cornerstone of her life. Annette was appointed assistant principal at Fienberg-Fisher and then principal at Biscayne Gardens Elementary. From there, she was selected as principal of Ojus Elementary. In 2008, she had the opportunity to apply her high standards and a lifetime of leadership when the City of Sunny Isles Beach her asked to become the founding principal of the city’s first public school: Norman S. Edelcup Sunny Isles Beach K-8. Under her tireless leadership, the Florida Department of Education awarded Sunny Isle Beach its highest “A” grade each of the 9 years she served as principal. Annette mentored many teachers and assistant principals, who secured leadership positions in the Miami-Dade Public Schools. Annette was a lifetime member of the PTA and Hadassah, a member of the Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center, and various civic organizations. Annette’s greatest joys included spending time with her family and friends. She loved working out, ballroom dancing and traveling the world with her husband, Bruce. She cherished spending summers with family and friends in the Berkshires and took great pride in all the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Bruce Weissman, and her parents, Zelda and Abe Braunstein. She is survived by her son, Jason Goldberg (Ella), her stepsons Richard Weissman (Carmen) and Pete Weissman (Emily), and her brother Jack Braunstein (Quilan). She is also survived by her grandchildren: Brandon Goldberg, Aubrey Goldberg, Michelle Weissman, Ryan Weissman and Hannah Weissman. The funeral service will be held at 12:30 PM on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at Levitt-Weinstein Blasberg-Rubin-Zilbert Memorial Chapel located at 18840 West Dixie Highway, North Miami Beach, Florida 33180. Following the funeral service will be a burial service at 2:30 PM at Lakeside Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 10301 NW 25th Street, Miami, Florida 33172.
