The Honorable Judge Amy Karan, age 54
KARAN, Amy.
Born in 1959 in Long Island, New York, Amy Karan was a loving mother, dedicated judge, and passionate teacher. She attended The University of Miami and its Law School, where she fell in love with the law and the pursuit of social justice.
Amy is survived by her only daughter, Amber Kornreich, who is following in her footsteps as a second year law student at Florida International University College of Law.
Before the age of 40, Amy Karan was appointed the Administrative Judge of the Domestic Violence Court in Miami, Florida. She served from 1997 until March 2009. She was a pioneer in the field of Domestic Violence, and she enjoyed each day on the bench.
Judge Karan also loved to teach. She traveled domestically and internationally as a judicial teacher and taught hundreds of students as a law professor at St. Thomas University. But most importantly, she taught her daughter the importance of living each day to the fullest and giving back to the community.
She loved rock music, theater, and a good time. She will be always remembered for her vibrant spirit, spontaneity and genuine passion for her work.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday September 15, 2013 at Levitt Weinstein, 18840 West Dixie Highway, NMB. Under the direction of Blasberg- Rubin- Zilbert 305-5386371
