After my discharge from the Army (Vietnam) David was 15 years old and wanted to learn how to drive. I told him that I would teach him. I had just purchased a 1964 1/2 pickup truck. So, he jumped in and I drove to the Mesa. Which was a deserted area. I drove off the road, and had David take the wheel. I instructed him to get his seat belt on tight - shift into drive- step on the gas, no stopping or we may get stuck. The truck jumped around almost at times out of control. We drove for about 15-20 minuets, when we found a dirt road. Once on the dirt road he found his confidence in driving. We drove for another 15-20 minuets, then turned around. As we headed home he stopped and started a few times.
When we reached the paved road, he wanted to stop. He drove home about a mile away..
When we walked into moms house, he was so proud of his accomplishment or maybe because he was still alive.
