Dorothy Georgina Nichols Beckwitt's Obituary
Mrs. Dorothy Nichols Beckwitt, beloved wife and mother, died peacefully after a short illness, on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016. She was 93 years old.
Dorothy, formerly of Marathon, Florida is survived by her husband, Dr. Jules Beckwitt, daughters Charlene Helba and Julie-Ann Beckwitt, sister Ruth Ellis and grandchildren Brian Helba, Julianne Helba, Andrew Vassil and Alana Vassil. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother and her daughter Diana Beckwitt Vassil.
Dorothy raised three daughters and was a successful businesswoman, actively managing the family optometric practice and real estate business for more than fifty years. She was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed playing until the end of her life. She and her husband Jules traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and the world. She spoke fondly of their many adventures but her proudest achievement and greatest fulfillment was in her children and grandchildren.
Dorothy was born in Ontario, Canada. While in her 20’s she visited Florida, fell in love with the pastel colors and then relocated to Miami, where she met her future husband, Jules. They were married in 1952 and resided first in Miami and later in the Florida Keys. She became an American Citizen in 1962, of which she was very proud.
There will be a private burial. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at a date to be announced. For information contact:
