Jon Burns' Obituary
Jon Burns was born in Ashland, Ohio in 1958. He moved to Florida and met his wife Sara in 1992. Jon and Sara just celebrated 22 years of marriage this December!
Jon has worked as a mathematics instructor at Driftwood Middle school for fifteen years. He worked diligently, focused on teaching and learning, and was passionate about curriculum and instruction. Jon was a dedicated and loyal member of the Broward Teachers Union. He was elected Secretary / Treasurer in July 2014 and served as a member of the Budget committee, Constitution committee, and the 2013-2014 Negotiations Team. Jon was also a member of the FEA Governance Board for 2014-2015.
Jon loved working with his hands: he loved repairing cars and wood working. He was a huge rock music fan, and he was also a gourmet cook. Jon was an avid sports fan -- faithful to the Cleveland Browns and the Ohio State Buckeyes -- and he also loved soccer and fantasy sports.
Jon lived by three mottos - "Better to have and not need, than need and not have." "There is no excuse for not being properly prepared". "Do it right the first time so you don't have to do it again."
At 56 years old, Jon has passed away too soon. He leaves behind a dedicated and loving wife of 22 years, Sara Burns, and his son, Shawn Burns. Jon will be sincerely missed by his Driftwood family and his union brother and sisters.
