Ann And Mal Powell
Dear Nancy and Jonathan,
We learned of Marc's death just as we were leaving for Alaska (which, given what his obituary said about his love of travel, seems oddly appropriate).
I know that, in Mal's mind, he still recalls Marc in his boyhood when he visited Pittsburgh with his parents. In some ways, Marc still exists as that young boy.
The trips that you wrote about that you took as a family are wonderful mementos that will keep Marc alive as the energetic man he must have been, eager to experience a wider world and share those adventures with his wife and son. And Mal's memory will preserve him as even younger - still on the cusp of adulthood.
These past few years have no doubt been quite difficult for both of you. But we hope that, as the Days of Awe approach, they bring you a chance both to express your grief and to look forward to more hopeful days.
With deepest sympathy,
Ann and Mal Powell
