I am very saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Maurice Laszio. He preceded me into Cardiology Fellowship at Jackson Memorial Hospital by about 20 years and I was privileged to see him professionally for many years. He was incredibly interesting to talk with and our time together would speed by. He was exceptionally caring and kind. I will miss him.
It with great sadness that I read his obituary in the Miami Herald. We became acquainted very briefly for the few months he was at Five Star Independent Living last year, sitting at the same table for dinner. Besides the regular exercise mentioned, I can assure you maintained a healthy diet.
Conversations with him were both stimulating and enjoyable. The overused phrase "gentleman and a scholar" surely applied to him. He was a "mensch!"
My deepest condolences to Maurice's family and close friends. I am among the many he touched who will miss him. I will always remember him for his intuitive, kind, empathetic nature, strong moral center, and intellectual prowess.
I knew him through his participation in the Stirling Library New Yorker Discussion group which I have moderated for several years. I believe I can speak for the group in saying that we all will miss and remember Maurice and the articulate, mind-opening interpretations and perspectives that he brought to our discussions. A Renaissance man in the classic sense, he had a healthy curiosity and a deep understanding spanning a far-ranging array of topics--from music, politics, and literature to medicine.

It is with great sadness that we have learned about the passing of Maurice.
His obituary shows what a wonderful and accomplished life he had. His great love for his family, but also his love for every person he encountered during his long medical career.
We have been friends with the Laszlo family for over 20 years and have always cherished the time when Maurice was part of our gatherings. We have such fond memories of Jewish holidays spent together.
Our hearts and deepest sympathies are with the family during this difficult time.
