We lived in the same condo building as Anna and Michele in Honolulu. We had talked in the dog yard in front of the building but had never officially met. One afternoon we heard a commotion in the entryway to our unit which was unusual because there were only two apartments per floor and you needed a card to access each floor. We looked in the hallway and saw Anna and Michele, their two dogs, and several bags of groceries. Turns out the elevators were out and they had decided to walk nearly 20 stories because they didn't want the ice cream to melt. We invited them in, offered something cold to drink, put the groceries in the refrigerator, and spent the afternoon talking. By early evening a wonderful friendship had blossomed that has endured to this day. And we ate the ice cream! Since that afternoon we've shared joys and sorrows, swapped pet sitting, and had many meals and scrabble games together. We're happy that Michele is at peace but miss her radiant smile every day.
