Shaun Laurence Samuels M.D.'s Obituary
Shaun Laurence Samuels, M.D., passed away in Aventura, Florida on September 6, 2025, from melanoma. He was 64 years old.
Dr. Samuels was born May 10, 1961 in Los Angeles, California to Dr. Peter and Mrs. Brenda Samuels. He graduated from Harvard School for Boys in 1979. He attended the University of California at Berkeley, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in bioengineering in 1983 and was elected to both Phi Beta Kappa and Tau Beta Pi. Shaun attended Northwestern University School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois, graduating in 1987.
In 2007, Shaun Samuels and Sharon Simon of Miami Beach, Florida, were married. Their daughter Mia Rebecca Samuels was born in December 2010. Although Shaun and Sharon later divorced, he was devoted to co-parenting Mia. Of all the accomplishments of his life—and there were many—he was most proud of being Mia’s father. He was the ultimate “girl dad.”
Dr. Samuels, who spent most of his career practicing in Miami, Florida, specialized in diagnostic radiology and vascular and interventional radiology, treating patients throughout South Florida. Later in his career, he also practiced in Tampa, Florida. But Shaun did far more than treat patients; he developed and patented numerous medical
devices that streamlined and improved the procedures he and others in his specialty performed, benefiting patients and practitioners alike.
In addition to fatherhood and his medical practice, Shaun was passionate about music and athletics. He played guitar and keyboard and composed and performed. He was also an avid athlete, competing in—and completing—triathlons all over the world, including the prestigious and grueling 2010 Ironman World Championship held in Hawaii.
Shaun Samuels is survived by his daughter, Mia, ex-wife Sharon Samuels, and sisters Nancie Clare, Megan Samuels and Natalie Wheeler. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in memory of Shaun Samuels, M.D. to the Melanoma Research Foundation, https://melanoma.org. Plans for funeral services and memorials are pending.
